This book is a composite of 4 sections: Lipidoses by Frederick Urbach, M.D.; The Systemic Reticuloendothelial Granulomas by Samuel Bluefarb, M.D.; Sarcoidosis by Harold Israel, M.D., Herman Beerman, M.D., and Maurice Sones, M.D.; and Mastocytosis by Felix Sager, M.D., and Zvi Even-Paz, M.B., CH.B. The text is written in an easy-to-read manner, and each section is followed by a lengthy and complete bibliography. The chapter "Lipidoses" begins with a brief discussion of lipid chemistry, which is followed by a classification and description of the various lipidoses. The author's classification is based primarily on the extensiveness of involvement of the various organ systems and, secondarily, on the type of lipid which appears to be altered. This varies from Thannhauser's classification of lipidoses—the presently accepted standard in the United States.
The chapter "The Systemic Reticuloendothelial Granulomas" includes Letterer-Siwe disease, Schüller-Christian disease, and eosinophilic granuloma. It will be appreciated by many students.
