This volume forms a supplement to Jadassohn's Handbuch of skin and venereal diseases. It presents a comprehensive review of virus and rickettsial infections of skin and mucous membranes.
The book is well-appointed as one is accustomed to expect from the Springer-Verlag. It contains numerous excellent illustrations, partly in color, which are well reproduced. The literature cited is extensive, with German contributions dominant. This should be of special interest to American investigators who often fail to keep up with developments abroad. The preference of German articles, understandable as it is in a text aimed primarily at a German-speaking audience, not infrequently seems to do injustice to the orginal observers, although these may get proper credit in the literature cited.
The presentation is divided into 2 major sections: general virology, relating newer knowledge on viruses and host-virus interactions; and specific virus diseases, their etiology, pathogenesis, symptomatology, diagnosis, therapy, epidemiology, and prevention. The
