The Fourteenth Annual Meeting of the Pacific Dermatologie Association was held in San Francisco from April 18 to 21, 1962-my, how time flies. The first morning, a combined meeting was held in association with the Section on Dermatology of the California Medical Association. This session consisted of a symposium on skin surgery. The large crowd in attendance attested to the popularity of this subject. Charles Lincoln opened the program with a discussion of scissors and/or scalpel excision of cutaneous lesions in the office. Then Sam Ayres III gave an up-to-the-minute essay on superficial chemosurgery. By using 2 projectors and screens simultaneously, Sam compared 2 clinical or histologie illustrations-before and after examples. Ayres felt that chemosurgery had much to offer, but in certain circumstances (scarring, for instance) dermabrasion was preferable. He has developed a combined technique, employing in many instances chemosurgery plus dermabrasion or chemosurgery plus face lifting in the same patient in order to obtain the maximum cosmetic benefit.
