A total of 108 basal cell epitheliomas, each confirmed by microscopic study, were removed from 18 different patients at sites of radiodermatitis.
Eighteen patients previously treated with x-ray, 16 of whom had chronic radiodermatitis, developed 108 different basal cell epitheliomas. Some of our findings suggest the anatomical site of radiodermatitis is one factor which may determine whether basal or squamous cell epitheliomas follow. No squamous cell epitheliomas were found in our patients.
