Abstract

An unusual case of temporary melanin pigmentation of the fingernails is reported following superficial irradiation therapy of a hand dermatitis.

Melanin can be differentiated from hemoglobin both chemically and microscopically.

The clinical significance of melanonychia is reviewed.
