Dermatology has been a morphologic discipline in the past and will continue to be so in the future for those not primarily interested in the skin as a special organ for study. Thus, the concept that the physician must "see" the skin lesions if he is to make a diagnosis and not merely read about them if he is to know dermatology has been axiomatic.

Atlas and Manual of Dermatology and Venereology is intended for the general practitioner, nondermatologist, and dentist, and it fulfills a need for the graphic display of skin lesions. This has been accomplished by 176 illustrations, an increase of 18 from the first edition, most of which are in color. This increase has been achieved not only by the addition of new but also by the replacement of old pictures.
