Apropos of Vander Ploeg and Stagnone's report of eyebrow alopecia in secondary syphilis [Eyebrow Alopecia in Secondary Syphilis, Arch Derm 90:172 (Aug), 1964], it seems too bad not to record the fact that this phenomenon was known to French syphilologists at the turn of the century as Pautrier's signed'omnibus, "the omnibus sign," or the sign which could be seen by a glance at a patient in an omnibus— from the sidewalk, perhaps !
