This is the second translation into Italian of an American textbook of dermatology, since Duhring in 1877. It appears in two volumes comprising 1,291 pages and 700 illustrations. Manganotti chose to be a coauthor and to use his own illustrations. His personal views and those of Italian investigators are expressed on several topics. These are marked with an asterisk and the page ends with Manganotti's initials. However, not all additions are so marked.

Manganotti is a brilliant psychodermatologist and his remarks are highly instructive.

With the present day teaching trend to let dust accumulate on our x-ray machines it is refreshing to read that Manganotti stresses the efficacy of roentgen therapy in pruriginous conditions.

American dermatologists will find instructive the pages on epidermolysis bullosa albo-papuloide of Pasini; the comments on photodermatoses, prurigo, parapsoriasis, granuloma trichophyticum Majocchi, cutaneous leishmaniasis, Crosti-Gianotti's disease, bullous pemphigoid, the Lyell syndrome, mucous membrane manifestations of lupus
