In February 1964 an article appeared in a nationwide Sunday newspaper supplement under the caption "Have Doctors Found the Fountain of Youth?" This article extolled the value of injections of fluid silicones for soft tissue augmentation, including mammary augmentation.As a consequence of this publicity, a number of practitioners have been approached by prospective patients requesting this type of cosmetic treatment. It originally appeared that this demand would be shortlived and of little importance. On the contrary, interest in this technique has apparently remained high among the public, especially in certain parts of the United States. In addition, advertisements have appeared in newspapers in this country announcing the availability of this technique abroad.
