I AM indebted to the Program Committee for the singular honor of addressing this gathering of my respected peers. It is an assignment approached with temerity, lest the quality of the contribution be other than commensurate with the erudition of this audience. All I can offer you is a survey of one university's efforts and problems in developing an undergraduate teaching program which seems to have received a modicum of favorable acknowledgment from the student body and the nondermatologic faculty.

Before this conference, each of us received a valuable survey, prepared by this association, of undergraduate teaching programs in dermatology in the United States and Canada. This survey permitted each of us, for the first time, to evaluate with some precision his position in the "have" and "have not" category. To determine the relevance of my discussion to your special situation, let us compare our standings.
