Lichen Planopilaris

Arch Dermatol. 1966;93(6):684-691. doi:10.1001/archderm.1966.01600240050009
Abstract

A case of extensive lichen planopilaris is reported. Histopathologic investigation of the progressive stages of the disease revealed an early intense perifollicular reaction followed by complete obliteration of the hair follicules. Late stages of the disorder were indistinguishable clinically and histopathologically from pseudopelade of Brocq.

Shed or manually epilated hairs were distinctive in that their roots were sheathed in sleeves of keratinous debris and internal and external root sheaths.
