To the Editor.—
The Symposium on Graduate Training in Dermatology in your March 1969 issue covered many aspects of the dermatology residency, but did not consider the training of dermatologists in surgery. Internal medicine and dermatology can be learned, to some extent, from books and lectures, either during residency or afterward. Surgery can be learned only by supervised experience, and this must be provided during residency. How to make dermatology residents confident and competent at skin surgery, and which surgical procedures are within the scope of our specialty, should be discussed at a future meeting of dermatology professors.
