This book is a summary of the proceedings of an international symposium concerning male pattern alopecia held in Rapallo, Italy, in July 1967. It consists of 219 pages with 120 figures and 32 tables. Thirty-six authors have contributed 20 short chapters, which have been divided into five principal subsections: Phylogenesis and Ontogenesis; Heredity and Hormones; The Hair; The Sebaceous Gland; and The Dermis. The brevity and division of labor have made the reading notably more interesting and factual as well. The editing is of high caliber, which is no small achievement in an international symposium. The bibliographies are selective and up to date.
The most gratifying aspect of the book is its general scientific merit, which is refreshingly good for topics of this kind. There are only three or four chapters which should not have been published.
More than one third of the book deals with aspects of hair growth
