In two volumes Bode and Korting have presented a combination of textbook and handbook containing the contributions of 30 well-known dermatologists, including 26 Germans, two Austrians, one Dutchman, and one Yugoslav. This is actually the tenth edition of what has originally been Riecke's textbook of skin and venereal diseases. By blending a factual descriptive text with 730 instructive black-and-white illustrations an informative up-to-date reference work for the study and practice of dermatovenereology was created. Good features are brief historical accounts of many clinical descriptions and synonyms of diagnostic terms. The bibliography is concise and includes essential international literature. Some of the classifications made are subject to difference of opinion. Pityriasis simplex of the face, the stubborn dermatitis in children, is listed under acute infectious diseases of the skin and considered a form of streptogenous eczematid.
