AAD NPD REPORT: News and Information from the American Academy of Dermatology and its National Program for Dermatology

Abstract

Dermatopathology Issue Favored 2-1  Members of the American Academy of Dermatology have voted two to one in favor of the establishment of Special Competence Certification in Dermatopathology by the American Board of Dermatology on a joint and equal basis with the American Board of Pathology.In a mail survey sent to 3,700 Life Members, Fellows and Associate Members of the Academy, a total of 2,250 replies (a 70% return) were received in six weeks' time. Of that number, 1,498 voted in favor of the Special Competence Certification; 752 voted against it. In a state by state tabulation, the majority of dermatologists in almost all states supported the ABD action. Among the exceptions were California which voted 241 against the Special Competence Certification vs 117 in favor and Colorado which voted 15 for and 18 against.
