A Europhysics conference on "Lasers in Photomedicine and Photobiology" will be held in Florence on Sept 3-5,1979. Relevant topics are nonsurgical application of lasers in medicine (photodynamic therapy of tumors, biostimulation effects, etc); search for new applications of VIS and UV lasers in medicine and photobiology; laser research in photobiology. The aim of the conference is to promote the application of VIS-UV lasers to improve the knowledge of photobiological processes in man and the present phototheraupetic techniques. The present status of the most important fields (photobiochemistry, photopharmacology, photophysiology, photodermatology, etc) should be reviewed on a research and clinical basis, and the possible introduction of laser techniques critically discussed.A two-day conference on "Lasers in Biomedicine" (Florence, Sept 6-7, 1979) is planned to immediately follow the Europhysics conference. It is sponsored by the Projects on Laser Medical Applications and on Bio-Medical Engineering of the Italian National Council of Research. It
