To the Editor.—
I am always surprised when the editor and/or his staff fail to point out to an author that a particular subject has appeared previously in their journal, with a suggestion that the author should quote the reference. In 1972 I brought to the attention of your readers that chylous lymphedema and cutaneous xanthomas had been reported at least three times in the American literature.1 This followed the publication of an excellent article by Berger et al (1972)2 in your own journal. Once again I note an article by Johnson (1979)3 on cutaneous chylous reflux, with the statement that "cutaneous lesions associated with reflux of lymphatic fluid and chyle from the skin have received little attention in the dermatological literature" and no mention of the article by Berger et al is made.
