We agree with Dr Richfield's comments that the presence of a sebaceous gland on the sole is a rare finding. Unfortunately, too few biopsy specimens are secured from the sole to furnish a meaningful estimate as to how unusual this occurrence may actually be. Ectopic follicular structures do occur on the palm,1 and this may be the explanation for our biopsy finding.
