Abstract

To the Editor.—  Our laboratory had previously developed a serologic assay to test for antibodies to toluene diisocyanate (TDI) in industrial workers. Detecting such antibodies frequently indicates exposure to TDI and, additionally, may forewarn of potential adverse reactions on subsequent exposure to TDI. We now report development of radioimmunoassays to detect antibodies to other industrial diisocyanates, specifically to hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) and diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI). The assays have been shown to be highly specific for the respective diisocyanates in animal studies.Under a grant from the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the serologic assays for antibodies to HDI and MDI are being made available to interested persons free of charge according to the following conditions: (1) Serum is to be submitted under a code. The identity of the donor may not be revealed to this laboratory. (2) The donor must sign a consent form acknowledging awareness of
