Luger and Gschnait, both of the University of Vienna, have edited a unique German language text on dermatologic oncology. It is coauthored by 16 well-known dermatologists, principally from Austria and Germany, including Urbach, Niebauer, Fritsch and Wolff, Civatte and Morel, and Kresbach and Kerl. The treatise summarizes new findings in dermatologic tumor research and emphasizes their importance for the interdisciplinary field of oncology. Only certain chapters will be specifically commented on here.
This volume on dermatologic oncology presents concise, up-to-date information on disease definition, epidemiology, etiology, pathogenesis, clinical features, histopathology, and therapy of each entity discussed. Despite the multiple authorship no real duplications or contradictory fundamental concepts are evident.
Sixty-three good color and 130 black-and-white illustrations, as well as 28 tables, enhance the value of this text. Each chapter contains a pertinent international bibliography. Even original articles by Dubreuilh, Hutchinson, and Kaposi are cited. Paper and print are of high
