Abstract

The emphasis of this book is on the recognition of cutaneous disease from a nurse's perspective. It includes key points regarding nursing care and can be used by nurses in both hospital and ambulatory settings.

There are nine chapters in this atlas: all are well organized with clear and helpful diagrams, tables, and photographs. It begins appropriately with a concise overview of cutaneous anatomy and physiology and follows with a detailed review of skin assessment. The approach to assessment is organized, logical, and applicable to any nursing setting. I appreciated the emphasis on obtaining an adequate history (including social and environmental factors), a necessity for both diagnosis and plan of care. The extensive list and examples of pertinent dermatologic terms, with which many nurses are unfamiliar, is very helpful for describing physical findings.

The remaining text is divided into skin conditions that affect patients in varied nursing settings: emergency room
