This small volume (6 × 10 in) contains 116 pages of surgical "gems." The editor, Dr Perry Robins, collected contributions from 40 experienced surgeons, detailing original techniques or original adaptations of previously reported techniques to suggest easier or better ways to perform a variety of cutaneous surgical procedures. Dr Robins notes that this book is to be the first in a series and, apparently, volume two is scheduled for production.
The book is divided into seven parts: anesthesia; general dermatologic procedures, including biopsies and excisions; dermabrasion; surgical procedures of the ear; surgical procedures of the scalp; nail surgery; and surgical aids and instruments. Each part contains 4 to 10 specific gems. For example, the section on anesthesia discusses four topics: anesthesia for the plantar skin, anesthetic injection technique, regional anesthesia for facial collagen injection; and regional block anesthesia of the ear.
