To the Editor.—
Now that the issue of the dermatology match has been openly discussed (humorously or otherwise) in this forum, I would like to publicly ask the leadership of the Association of Professors in Dermatology to explain why the dermatology match occurs in October. As pointed out by Drs Glassman and Boris,1 the timing our match maximally inconveniences the students applying to our programs, their fellow interns and residents, and the medical school personnel who counsel applicants and prepare letters of recommendation. Each year, I career-counsel a significant number of students interested in dermatology. It would be helpful to have a written statement from the professors association that I may give to those students explaining our "mismatch." Presumably there is some valid reason for this aberration—many of us would appreciate knowing what that reason is.The CORRESPONDENCE department of the Archives is meant to provide a forum for
