Abstract

The fourth edition of Dermatology in General Medicine surpasses the standards set in the previous three editions, published in 1971, 1979, and 1987. While it continues to serve as a superb reference textbook, the fourth edition manages to present even more information in a significantly more accessible manner. To parallel and enhance the quality of the text, several changes have been made in format, structure, and design.

Perhaps the first thing noticed is the conspicuous absence of the atlas. All of the original color plates and many more have been incorporated into their appropriate chapters throughout the two-volume book. This is a far more efficient arrangement. The text has been reformatted with divisions that are more clearly marked and allow quick reference to a particular section of interest. The layout of the table of contents is also easier to read, with chapter titles in a single column and in bold
