Aesthetic Orthognathic Surgery and Rhinoplasty, edited by Derek Steinbacher, is a personal attempt by the editor to combine the complex procedures of orthognathic surgery and rhinoplasty into an interrelated evaluation and surgical plan. The editor combines his extensive knowledge of both procedures to work out an orderly, sensible, and precise system to analyze and plan these operations to treat patients who might benefit from them.
This text has information that can benefit plastic surgeons, facial plastic surgeons, and oral/maxillofacial surgeons who are looking for an orderly, logically laid-out summary of orthognathic surgical procedures and a guide for successfully carrying out concurrent rhinoplasty. These procedures have traditionally been staged with the orthognathic procedure performed first, and the rhinoplasty done at some point in the future. Often, surgical staging is done owing to the availability of surgeons of different training and/or skills to perform different parts of the combined procedure. Many surgeons have been exposed to both dentofacial procedures and rhinoplasty during their training, but most have seen their practice develop along one route or the other. This textbook does a nice job of providing the reader with a comprehensive background of orthognathic principles, a solid description of the surgical approaches, and many clinical examples to demonstrate these essential points of knowledge. The editor has included consistent graphics with state-of-the-art 3-dimensional imaging and CT scans that beautifully document the clinical cases. The consistency of these images throughout the book is impressive.
