ABIM strongly encourages all certified physicians to maintain their certification, including physicians certified prior to 1990 because research has shown skills and knowledge deteriorate over time.¹ Maintenance of Certification is required of all members of ABIM boards and test committees, including “grandfathers” who certified prior to 1990.
