To the Editor In a recent issue of the Journal, Orlich et al1 described in an observational cohort study a relation between dietary patterns and all-cause mortality. Compared with nonvegetarians, vegans had a hazard ratio of 0.85 (95% CI, 0.73-1.01) for all-cause mortality. The regression models were adjusted for known covariates, such as age, smoking, physical activity, alcohol consumption, and socioeconomic status.
