Treatment for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Arch Intern Med. 1998;158(20):2266-2267. doi:

We appreciate Baschetti's suggestions regarding alternative explanations for the failure of our placebo-controlled trial of fludrocortisone to ameliorate the symptoms or functional impairments of chronic fatigue syndrome. The fludrocortisone tablets inside the gelatin capsules used in this study dissolve completely in water within 4 minutes. This modest delay in dissolution would unlikely affect absorption of fludrocortisone because it is readily absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract.
