We disagree with the comments of Palmblad concerning our article on antibiotic-induced agranulocytosis.
First, Palmblad reports that the neutropenia time and the mortality varies with the drug. But in a multivariable analysis of 91 cases of nonchemotherapy drug–induced agranulocytosis, we have shown that the time of neutropenia (time for neutrophil count to reach >0.5 × 109/L), which is indirectly related to mortality, was not influenced by the type of drugs (unpublished data, 2001).
