Dr Denberg has raised some interesting points regarding the consensus statement on management of high blood pressure in African Americans.1 The HAAWG set its task on providing the first evidence-based clinical tool for treating high blood pressure in African Americans. Prior to our report, no guidelines existed on treating hypertension in this population, which has a higher rate of cardiovascular events, compared with white Americans.
