To the Editor The study in a recent issue of JAMA Internal Medicine by Faber and colleagues1 assesses the association between specialty competitiveness and salaries and includes a subsequent comparison with a similar study2 conducted in 1989. As a medical student aware of the match process in the United States, I believe that the way the authors measured the competitiveness of specialties using the fill rate and the way that the fill rate was calculated could both be improved.
