Having recently completed residency training, I am surprised by how few times I received direct feedback from patients and families on our clinical encounters.
In my outpatient panel, for instance, I had a close relationship with one patient for the entirety of my residency. I saw her for numerous chronic conditions: congestive heart failure, diabetes, and hypertension. Last year, we navigated a scary experience: an abnormal mammogram result. She ultimately underwent a lumpectomy showing an intraductal papilloma.
