The Teachable Moment series in JAMA Internal Medicine is an attempt to improve recognition among trainees at all levels of the harms that result from overuse and underuse of health care services.1 The series highlights narratives written by clinical trainees describing cases of inappropriate care that resulted in harm or in which harm was narrowly avoided. Following each focused clinical vignette is a succinct summary of evidence supporting appropriate care.2 Launched in 2014, approximately 110 articles have been published in this series. We believe the series has been helpful in educating trainees (and more senior clinicians) regarding the potential harms associated with underuse or overuse of medical care. Anecdotally, we are told that Teachable Moment articles have been used to provide evidence during morning reports, inpatient work rounds, attending rounds, and many other formal and informal teaching formats.
