Observational Study Design Challenges—The Case of Fluoroquinolones and Aortic Disease

Recent observational cohort studies have reported a possible association between fluoroquinolone use and aortic aneurysm and aortic dissection (AA/AD).1,2 Based on this evidence, the US Food and Drug Administration issued a warning in December 2018 recommending avoiding fluoroquinolone use in patients with AA/AD or who are at risk for these conditions.3
