Risk of Lymphoma in Autoimmune Rheumatic Conditions—Reply

Arch Intern Med. 2006;166(11):1234. doi:10.1001/archinte.166.11.1234-a

We found the recently published study by Bernatsky et al1 highly interesting. This study provided additional information on the risk of NHL in patients with SLE. However, in our meta-analysis,2 we searched PubMed for studies published until April 2005. The difference in the 2 studies concerning the risk of NHL in patients with SLE is indeed of particular interest. These results prompted us to scrutinize our findings and to perform additional analyses such as heterogeneity testing, fixed effect models, recursive cumulative meta-analysis, testing the effect of the first published study,3 and an upgraded meta-analysis incorporating the newly published cohort study of Bernatsky et al.1
