Estimating Cardiovascular Risk

Arch Intern Med. 2008;168(1):111. doi:10.1001/archinternmed.2007.18

In the May 28th issue of the Archives, Weymiller et al1 highlight the significant benefit of patient-tailored decision aids on adherence to statin therapy in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. They also report that patients who used the decision aid were estimating their own cardiovascular risk and potential absolute cardiovascular risk reduction more accurately, indicating the importance of specifically designed decision aids to enhance knowledge and understanding of cardiovascular risk.
