We appreciate the feedback by Mittal and colleagues regarding our recent publication.1 They ask if femoral central venous catheter (CVC) use was higher in the surgical ICU (where there were trauma patients) vs the medical ICU. This information is not known, but we suspect it was not. This is because it was hospital policy to follow the central catheter bundle checklist used by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement in all ICUs.2 This bundle highlights the need to avoid the femoral site and was in use throughout our institution before, during, and after the study period.
