Patient-Centered Care Means Better Health Care

I congratulate Olson and Windish1 for bringing to our attention significant gaps in patient-centered care. The Institute of Medicine's report, Crossing the Quality Chasm, identified patient-centered care as 1 of 6 dimensions contributing to health care quality2; yet 9 years later, Olson and Windish1 show that this aspect of care is lacking.
