Quality Doctor-Patient Relationships Cannot Be Bought

We have received many comments about our recent article on CPEs in asymptomatic individuals,1 and the 2 letters by Drs Locke and Gerson submitted to the ARCHIVES are representative of them. I appreciate Dr Locke's comments regarding the CPE and his thoughts regarding our underestimate of the costs. Indeed the preparticipation sports examination for adolescent athletes is an area of substantial controversy.2,3 I agree that calculating these costs would further highlight the problems associated with the CPE in the asymptomatic individual.
