Abstract

This book contains a number of lectures that were delivered by Professor Aschoff, during his recent visit to the United States. It includes, among others, the Lane Lectures of Leland Stanford University, the Janeway Lectures of the Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, and the Osler Memorial and the Harvey Lectures.

Altogether there are fourteen separate papers. The subjects discussed are varied. They cover a wide range of pathologic data and evidently are not intended to form a consistent series. All, however, are concerned with subjects vital to medicine at the present time. Among these subjects, one finds the following: the reticulo-endothelial system; the pathogenesis of human pulmonary consumption; concept of inflammation; pathologic fatty changes; the normal and pathologic morphology of the suprarenals; atherosclerosis; ovulation and menstruation; the orthology and pathology of the extrahepatic passages; the site of formation of bile pigment; thrombosis; the relation of mucosal erosions to the development
