This book is a volume of ten articles by the professors of the Faculty of Medicine of Bahia (Brazil). One of the most interesting is the "Clinical Study of Myocardial Infarction," with the presentation of numerous electrocardiograms and a study of electrocardiographic and clinical symptoms. The article "Rural Endemias" is a statistical study concerning the tropical diseases commoner in Bahia and their prophylaxis, such as malaria, intestinal parasites, schistosomiasis, and leishmaniasis, which are difficult medical problems in the rural zones of Brazil. The illustrations in the article on "Elephantiasis" concerning clinical cases in the state of Bahia are most interesting. In the article on "Allergy of the Newborn" the theories explaining the production of allergy in newborn infants are adequately discussed. Presentation of an interesting case of medullar schistosomiasis mansoni is surgically and pathologically confirmed in a patient who had flaccid paraplegia. This study gives numerous references to Brazilian and
