Dr. Pasquale Montenero, assistant at the clinic of Internal Medicine at the University of Rome, is the author of this interesting work on the diabetic coma.

He divides his work into seventeen chapters, and after an introduction of historic notations, he begins his discussion of the diabetic coma by studying it in its etiologic, pathogenetic, metabolic, and biochemic elements; he describes the symptomatology and alterations which it causes by suggesting prophylactic rules for its prevention and therapeutic methods for its cure. Especially interesting is the study on etiological factors on the three forms of coma in the child, the adult, and the aged person. The chapter on differential diagnosis offers a vast and complete picture.

Although the author has dedicated the greater part of his study to the coma itself, he has richly illustrated it with facts and observations and clearly described the prophylactic rules. Thanks to these rules, the
