The author of this book views the problem of cerebral arteriosclerosis not only from the medical standpoint of pathology, diagnosis, and therapy but also from social and legal aspects. This work serves not only the general practitioner and specialist but also the sociologist and jurist.

The text begins with a discussion of the syndromes produced by arteriosclerosis of the cerebral vessels, carefully tracing the course of the disease from the onset through the natural resolution of signs and symptoms. Neurologic syndromes, common and rare, are described together with subjective symptoms and mental changes. The second chapter is devoted to diagnosis and differential diagnosis. The value of carotid compression, roentgen examinations, including arteriography, spinal fluid examination, and electroencephalography is discussed. The advantages and pitfalls of such adjunctive tests are elaborated. The third chapter deals with the pathogenesis of arteriosclerotic and hemorrhagic cerebral disease.
