Abstract

The second printing of Osler Amphorisms will doubtless stimulate a rereading of this little literary gem by those fortunate enough to have a copy of the first edition. For those encountering the collection for the first time a most pleasant and profitable experience is in store.

It represents, in a very real sense, a labor of love by Dr. William B. Bean. The volume is made up of notes set down day by day by Dr. Bean's father, Dr. R. Bennett Bean, during a period of two years in which the latter was privileged to make rounds with Osler in Baltimore during student and early graduate days.

What a privilege that was—to be with this most admired and beloved of America's great medical teachers—at the bedside day after day where Osler's light shone most brightly! And how fortunate that Dr. William Bean was inspired to get together the notes made
