Abstract

Within 2 years of its foundation, Archives of Interamerican Rheumatology (A.I.R.) could truthfully bear the label "the widest circulating rheumatological journal." The spectacular rise of the youngest journal can be attributed to good editing, good printing, and the high quality of its early contributions. It is bilingual, which means its editors must be unusually energetic in translating into English or Portuguese (or Spanish) the articles accepted and every small contribution too. These achievements suggest the influence of individuals of unusual ability and personality, and such are the editors, Dr. Israel Bonomo of Rio de Janeiro and Dr. M. Mizraji of Uruguay. Prompt in replying to letters, Dr. Bonomo is always responsive (not necessarily affirmatively) to any ideas which may be suggested to him. We had corresponded freely but had not met before the Rome Rheumatology Congress in September, 1961; then I experienced the magnetism of personal contact with him.
