This small volume presents the 36 papers and their edited discussion. International meetings are frequently disappointments, for the papers are often old when presented, there are language barriers, and the discussion is often limited. The informal organization and the exclusive audience have assured freshness of thought and discussion in this meeting. The uniqueness of the papers was checked in the library. About one third of the communications are either unpublished or unavailable in the usual medical library journals; the remainder are available. The electron microscopy of the liver in disease and experimental pathology was well considered in eight papers. The endoplasmic reticulum and the biliary microvilli are related to transport phenomena, and many correlations were drawn. The intrahepatic circulation was considered in four papers. The hepatic hematocrit and a bloodless isotope method for measuring blood flows in the hepatic artery and portal vein are interesting papers seemingly introducing
