Abstract

Examination of the Nervous System: A Student's Guide. Second edition. By A. T. Steegman, MD. Price, $4. Pp 210. Year Book Medical Publishers, Inc., 200 E Illinois St. Chicago 11, revised 1962.

Motor Examination of Peripheral Nerve Injuries is an excellent aid to anyone dealing with peripheral nerve injuries. There are numerous photographs to illustrate the function of both normal and denervated muscle. There is emphasis on certain "trick" and supplementary muscle functions that may be confusing in assessing the particular nerves involved. Many of the photographs do not show good detail. The price is excessive for a book of 89 pages (24 of which are blank or carry only a title). Most of the same material with better photography is included in the pamphlet, "Aids to the Investigation of Peripheral Nerve Injuries," issued by Her Majesty's Stationery Office, London, at a fraction of the price.
