This book is in reality a comprehensive review of work on the subject carried out by the author himself or in collaboration with his associates. The index cites 59 articles which bear Simonson's name as senior author or coauthor. The ample material gathered during about 15 years of study offered Simonson a broad foundation on which to build his book, and the reader who wants to get acquainted with Simonson's work does not have to go through numerous volumes of medical reviews in which it was published.

The main emphasis is based on the study and analysis of large groups of individuals considered to be normal, and the sound statistical approach constitutes the strongest appeal of the monograph. The choice of the 95% confidence limits for the representation of the basic material is no doubt superior to the currently employed system of indicating just the minimal and maximal values and
