The appearance of a new edition of this classic is an important event for tropical and general medicine, and the fact that such a large work should be thoroughly revised seven years after the previous edition was published is striking testimony to the energy of the authors. It has indeed been brought up to date as is manifest by the large number of references included to papers published in the last one to two years.
As a comprehensive text book it is supreme in its class, combining detailed descriptions of the morphology, life history, and means of recognizing parasites with sufficient information on epidemiology, clinical and therapeutic features, to enable the reader to gain an overall view of the field.
