This is an annual publication. It is a top quality reference which is quite close to being a textbook of medicine. As a matter of fact it has some advantages over textbooks. The subject matter is arranged in a uniform outline which includes essentials of diagnosis, general considerations, clinical findings, some comments on prevention, a few paragraphs on treatment, and one on prognosis. Only one or two references are listed in each case as a guide to further reading.
The authors' views on treatment are conservative. Drugs are listed by generic and brand names and in dosages of milligrams, or grains, or both. Tabulations are used freely. The arrangement of chapters has been changed slightly and a chapter on "Medical Genetics" has been added. The appendix in this edition contains two pages devoted to heart-lung resuscitation.
This is a comfortable book to browse through. The pages are free from glare.
